Today we began a three part series on knowing when to repair or replace appliances in your home to maximize energy efficiency and keep your home green.
We are Colonial Floor Care. We offer the very best terrazzo restoration, and marble and granite polishing services in South Florida!
To clean your newly restored terrazzo floor, we recommend using a neutralizer rather than soap or detergent. Neutralizers can be purchased at any home care or hardware store.
Soap and detergents can dull the terrazzo floor’s shine and actually attract dirt because of the residue they leave behind.
Many people, especially those new to South Florida, aren’t exactly sure what terrazzo is. According to The National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association, the word terrazzo is derived from the italian “terrace” or “terrazza” and was defined over the centuries as “a form of mosaic flooring made by embedding small pieces of marble in mortar, and then polishing”.
Today, the NTMA defines this traditional material as follows: “Terrazzo consists of marble, granite, onyx or glass chips in portland cement or resinous material. The terrazzo is poured, cured, ground and polished. ”
According to Marble Masters UK, Terrazzo has been used as a flooring product since Roman tomes. Today it enjoys an enviable reputation as an attractive hard flooring that delivers an appealing combination of durability, ease of maintenance, beauty and performance.
Terrazzo is an amazingly “green” product. It is environmentally safe to install or restore (if green , chemical- free methods are used by experts such as Colonial Floor Care). It is also easy to maintain and very hygenic. It does not harbor dust mites or mold, and helps keep Florida homes cool.

After 23 years doing historic terrazzo restoration in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami’s Art district region, South Beach, Colonial has decided to set up a location in the Tampa area. Ray Ortiz business partner is excited to be relocating one of our four teams to the Tampa area to service Sarasota, St Petersburg, Clearwater, and Brandon region. Over the last few years we have found ourselves having to do terrazzo restoration in Tampa, especially since some South Floridian clients have moved up to the area. Our team of expert repair people know how important the expectation of invisible repair work is to the client. This is were other companies fail. Since we have specialized in historic restoration for over 20 our repair quality is the best. We look forward to our expansion to the Tampa/ Sarasota area and look forward to being involved in more projects, especially those involved in tile removal.
